During summer, there are many fun things to do and see. Beaches and drive-in movies are some of the most popular. There’s also International Picnic Day on June 18 and World Sauntering Day on June 19. Here are some fun ways to spend your summer holiday. You’ll be sure to have a great time, no matter what you do!
Drive-ins are a popular destination
Drive-in theaters are making a comeback across the United States. While many of them have closed, there are still a number of locations around the country, and the summer holiday season is a great time to check out a classic. With outdoor screens under the stars, and plenty of socially distanced parking, drive-ins are a great way to spend a lazy summer afternoon.
Today, there are around 300 drive-in theaters operating in the United States, with over five hundred screens total. A number of pop-up drive-ins also operate in farmlands, diner parking lots, and other outdoor areas. Founder and chairman of Deanza Land & Leisure Corporation Frank Huttinger, has six locations around the country.
Drive-ins are a great place for families to spend the summer. In the evening, guests can relax with a movie and some popcorn. The Holiday Twin Drive-In opened in 1968, and reopened this past April with family-friendly movies. Those with young children will enjoy throwback viewings of Batman and Superman. Each of the three screens can accommodate around 300 cars, and there’s room to park up to twelve cars per side. This summer, the Holiday Twin Drive-In is also hosting live bands. The bands will perform on outdoor screens and broadcast the audio through drive-in radio frequencies.
Beaches
Beach holidays have always been a popular choice for a break. The relaxing feel of the ocean and the sand is a soothing combination. You can spend your days lazing around on the beach, swimming or just soaking up the sun. Here are a few of the top destinations to enjoy a beach vacation.
The Portuguese Madeira Islands are home to many beautiful beaches, including Porto Santo. This stunning location is a perfect place to spend a day, surrounded by the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Whether you want to enjoy the sun and sand or snorkel with sharks and dolphins, this island has something for everyone.
During the school holidays, you may not want to travel far. A few hours drive from Brisbane can get you to an idyllic beach. In Brisbane, many people head to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast. But there are other beaches in the city. The pristine white sand of Whitehaven Beach is popular with backpackers.
Drive-in theaters
Summer is the time to head to your local drive-in theater. These classic cinemas have a storied history, and in the 1950s there were over 4,000 of them in the United States. Today, that number has dropped to only 305, but the remaining drive-ins are seeing a recent boom in popularity. Whether you’re looking for an outdoor film screening or a socially detached experience, drive-ins are the perfect choice for the summer holidays.
The heyday of the drive-in was in the late 1950s. According to Vogel, there were more than 4,000 drive-ins in the United States at the time. During that time, they were an important part of the community, and even a symbol of teen culture. But in the mid-20th century, the time for outdoor cinemas shifted, and the drive-ins were soon displaced by the multiplex and home entertainment.
These drive-ins are now reopening. Some are even taking precautions to ensure the safety of their patrons. Some drive-ins have partnered with an app called FanFood, which allows patrons to order and pay for food and drinks using their cell phones. Another new feature at these theaters is the Listen Everywhere app. This app allows moviegoers to listen to their favorite movie using their mobile phones. For $5, you can even rent a portable speaker and listen to the movie.
Las Vegas
If you’re looking for a place to spend the summer, Las Vegas is the place to go. The city offers a wide range of activities to keep you busy, and offers an incredible opportunity to test your personality and get out of your comfort zone. Here, you’ll experience thrills around every corner.
You can also choose to visit the city during the first two weeks of June, when temperatures are lower than in other parts of the world and the crowds aren’t as high. However, you should be aware that heatwaves can occur at this time, so you need to pack extra water for this trip. Nevada’s Health District recommends that visitors drink at least one glass of water every two hours to stay hydrated.
While the average rainfall in Las Vegas is only 0.1 to 0.4 inches, it can occasionally reach up to 0.5 inches. During July and August, the area experiences monsoon season, so there is a chance of thunderstorms, but they usually pass quickly. If you get caught in one, you’ll be able to wait it out in a restaurant or a casino, and you may not even realize that a storm started until you’re on dry ground.
